The interview transcripts were analysed
to provide evidence of felt needs among residents. The results
were used by community forums to prepare action plans, proposing
ways of responding to issues raised. The results and action
plans were available for statutory bodies to use in delivering
services.
Community research can provide rich data about a community,
including residents who are hard to reach. It enables local
people to be involved throughout the process, a factor which
can encourage and motivate participation. SHARP community researchers
reported high levels of enjoyment and personal development.
Some went on to further training or employment.
Some of the SHARP Community Researchers wrote a handbook about
the process to help individuals and groups considering this
type of work.
