The Healthy Living Approach focuses on the needs
of communities – all the issues which influence the way
people live
Healthy living can be about taking care of yourself in ways
that don’t rely on medicine and the health service. Health,
or well being, is affected by many issues – meeting friends,
feeling safe, good neighbours, having enough money, good food,
a comfortable home, a healthy environment, being able to do
things you enjoy, access to transport. |
| The Healthy
Living Approach looks at all the issues which influence the
way people live |
Facilitating community-led action to identify and address
health and social issues and encourage new skills, experiences
and opportunities for local people. It is different because:
| It tries to represent all groups in
the community |
| It encourages the community to be
involved in planning, implementing and evaluating services |
| It addresses a number of different
health concerns together – it is holistic |
| It addresses social, economic and
environmental issues that impact on health |
| It is a partnership between the community
and the statutory agencies and service providers on health
issues |
|
 |
|
This is done by:
| Training community members in basic
research and interviewing techniques |
Gathering information:
- about health needs and services available locally
- recording the views, needs and priorities of a
sample of residents through semi-structured interviews
carried out by Community Researchers
|
| Feeding back information in an accessible
format to local ‘healthy living forums’ |
| Writing action plans that address
the results |
| Liaison between forums and local providers
of health, social and other services |
