| Ten partner organisations from
the community, statutory and academic sectors form the SHARP
project partnership. The partnership wrote the project proposal
and has overseen research and project activity. Two action researchers
and a project administrator are employed to undertake the SHARP
project. Funding is received from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The local authority, Pembrokeshire County Council, leads the
project, provides financial management and employs the staff. |

Project meetings
have provided the opportunity to discuss progress and to modify
the research in response to changing circumstances or findings.
A Project Steering Group meets quarterly to oversee the project.
This is chaired by the Head of Community Care Commissioning
in the authority’s Social Care and Housing Department.
Statutory and academic partners have one or two seats on this
Steering Group and community forums can send up to five representatives.
From the outset, the project recognised the importance of encouraging
and supporting community participation in decision making. The
membership arrangements also reflect the community-led nature
of the project. Two representatives from the Welsh Assembly
Government, which funds SHARP, attend meetings to observe activity.
Steering Group membership numbers up to 16.
A Research Coordinating Team meets between Steering Group sessions.
Frequency varies between monthly and quarterly as required.
Seven partner representatives attend this sub-group:
one local authority representative
one representative of each community forum (3)
one health agency representative
one or two academic partners (according to agenda)
These team meetings are informal and encourage full participation
in discussions and decisions. Issues covered include specific
research questions, detailed procedures as arise in the day-to-day
project business. |
